Now they say it is shaped like a trumpet

By Charles Arthur
Source : The Independent

At first they thought it was flat. Then that it was shaped like a football. But now, scientists believe the universe could be shaped like a flat-sided trumpet.

That would lead to strange effects in some parts of the universe, where time and light would be so curved that you could see the back of your own head. Also, a long-held theory about the universe - that it looks much the same anywhere - would have to be abandoned. And finally, the universe would be finite, rather than extending in every direction forever.

Is Allah Pleased with Me?

by Sheikh Sâlih al-Zahrânî

It should be known that obedience to Allah is one of the chief reasons for attaining Allah's pleasure, while disobedience to Him is a reason for being subject to His wrath. This point is emphasized repeatedly in the Qurân and Sunnah.

"And He is pleased with Islam for you as a religion." [Sûrah al-Mâidah: 3]
"And He is not pleased with ingratitude in His servants; and if you are grateful, He is pleased with this in you." [Sûrah al-Zumar: 7]

Allah is pleased with those who are truthful. Allah says: "Allah will say: This is the day when their truth shall benefit the truthful ones; they shall have gardens beneath which rivers flow to abide therein for ever: Allah is well pleased with them and they are well pleased with Allah; this is the mighty achievement." [Sûrah al-Mâidah: 119]

He is pleased with the believers. Allah says: "Their reward with their Lord is gardens of perpetuity beneath which rivers flow, abiding therein for ever; Allah is well pleased with them and they are well pleased with Him; that is for those who fear their Lord." [Sûrah al-Bayyinah: 8].

Hadith for today 1

"An abi Yahya Suhaibib ni Sinan RA qoola : qoola Rasuulullahi SAW : Ajaban li amril mu'min inna amrahu kullahu lahuu khairun..walaisa zaalika li ahadin illa lil mu'min...in asoobathus sarraa'u syakara fakaana khairan lahu..wa in asoobathud dharraa'u sobara fakaana khairan lahu..( rowaahu Muslim )

“How wonderful is the affair of the believer, for his affairs are all good, and this applies to no one but the believer. If something good happens to him, he is thankful for it and that is good for him. If something bad happens to him, he bears it with patience and that is good for him.” (Narrated by Muslim, 2999).

The Explanation of the Beautiful and Perfect Names of Allaah

*In the Name of Allâh, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful*
*by Shaykh 'Abdur-Rahmân ibn Nâsir as-Sa'dî (d. 1383 AH / n/a CE)*

Translated by Abu Rumaysah
[Taken from Tayseer al-Kareem ar-Rahmaan, Abdur-Rahmaan Naasir as-Sa`dee's Tafseer]

A large number of the Beautiful Names of Allaah are repeated manifold in theQur`aan as demanded by the occasion and it is necessary to explain their meanings in a succinct way. So we say:

Ar-Rabb (The Lord)This name has been repeatedly mentioned in many verses. Ar-Rabb is the One Who nurtures and sustains all of His servants through regulating the affairs and granting all types of favours and blessings. More specifically He is the One Who nurtures and sustains his sincere friends by correcting and purifying their hearts, souls and manners. This is why their supplications are frequently made with this Noble Name because they seek this specific nurturing.

"And your Lord is Most Forgiving, Owner of Mercy. Were He to call them to account for what they had earned then surely He would have hastened on their punishment. But they have their appointed time beyond which they will find no escape." (18:58)

Respect for Mothers

Mawlana Syaikh Nazim Adil al Haqqani
Liberating The Soul Volume 1

All praise is for Allah and peace and blessings be upon the Prophet Muhammad SAW, May Allah send peace and blessings upon him. After Allah and his Messenger May Allah send peace and blessings upon him, the most beloved and respected person to a Muslim should be his mother! Allah has given the mother such status that He says, Paradise lies under the feet of mothers.

Narrated Abu Huraira :

A man came to Allah's Apostle and said, "O Allah's Apostle! Who is more entitled to be treated with the best companionship by me?." The Prophet (pbuh) said, "Your mother." The man said. "Who is next?." The Prophet said, "Your mother." The man further said, "Who is next?." The Prophet said, "Your mother." The man asked for the fourth time, "Who is next?." The Prophet said, "Your father." (Bukhari, Volume 8, Book 73, Number 2)

Obedience and respect towards your mother is a very important duty in Islam and is similar to performing Salaah and keeping fast. To hurt your mother in any way is the second biggest sin and those who commit this evil sin will be harshly punished by Allah in the hereafter or maybe even in this world!

Dead Hearts and Empty Supplications

Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu
(May the peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be with you)

It is reported that Ibrahim b. Adham (May Allah have mercy on him) (d162H), once passed through the market of Basrah. People gathered around him and asked:

O Abu Ishaq, Allah the Exalted says in his Book. "Call on me, I will answer your prayers", but we have been calling on Him for a long time and He does not answer our prayers. [Ibrahim] replied, "O people of Basrah, your hearts have died in respect to ten things :

1. First, you know Allah but you do not give Him His rights;
2. Second, you have read Allah's Book but you do not act by it;
3. Third, you claim to love Allah's Messenger (Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) yet you abandon his Sunnah;
4. Fourth, you claim to be enemies to Shaytan but you conform to [his ways];
5. Fifth, you say you love Paradise yet you do not work for it;
6. Sixth, you say you fear The Fire yet you put yourselves closer to it [by sinning];
7. Seventh, you say death is true but you do not prepare for it;
8. Eighth, you busy yourselves with the faults of others and disregard your own;
9. Ninth, you consume the favors of your Lord but are not grateful for them; and
10. Tenth, you bury your dead but take no lesson from them."

License to Exploit Servant Abuse Case Could Challenge Diplomatic Immunity

By Andreas Wassermann

Diplomatic immunity was originally meant to protect embassy personnel from arbitrary harassment. But a new case in Berlin, involving the alleged abuse of a Indonesian servant, makes it clear that human rights sometimes get lost in the shuffle. The case could go to Germany's highest court.

Where else could Devi Ratnasari have gone? Should she have gone down to the nearby river and jumped in? Or perhaps to the junkyard lying across the bridge behind the house? Or to the four-lane street where the No. 139 bus stopped? And what then? She doesn't speak a word of German, and she also didn't have any money for a ticket.

Instead, the petite Asian woman opted to stay in her employer's apartment on Boca Raton Street, in northwestern Berlin. For more than a year and a half, laboring seven days a week, usually until late into the night. She was humiliated, kicked and beaten with a stick -- like a serf. That, at least, is what she told the police.

Devi Ratnasari, not her real name, is from Indonesia. The 30-year-old had been working as a household employee for a Saudi Arabian diplomat until eight months ago. And if it hadn't been for Nevedita Prasad at Ban Ying, a center focused on combating human trafficking, she would likely still be slaving away in the diplomatic residence -- just like so many other women in Berlin from Indonesia and the Philippines.

Excellence of Adhan and its Relevant

1. Narrated by 'Abdul Rahman: Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri told my father, "I see you liking sheep and the wilderness. So whenever you are with your sheep or in the wilderness and you want to pronounce Adhan for the prayer raise your voice in doing so, for whoever hears the Adhan, whether a human being, a jinn or any other creature, will be a witness for you on the Day of Resurrection. "Abu Sa'id added, "I heard it (this narration) from Allah's Apostle." (Saheeh Bukhari - Volumn 001, Book 011, Hadith Number 583)

2. Narrated by Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, "If the people knew the reward for pronouncing the Adhan and for standing in the first row (in congregational prayers) and found no other way to get that except by drawing lots they would draw lots. (Saheeh Bukhari - Volumn 001, Book 011, Hadith Number 589, and
Muslim - Book 004, Hadith Number 0877)

3. Yahya narrated it on the authority of his uncle that he had been sitting in the company of Mu'awiya b. Abu Sufyan when the Mu'adhdhin called (Muslims) to prayer. Mu'awiya said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) saying The Mu'adhdhins will have the longest necks on the Day of Resurrection. (Saheeh Muslim - Book 004, Hadith Number 0750)

10 Famous Companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him)

Asalamu alaykum wa rahmatullah,

There is a wide gap between the lives of Muslims today and the lives of the first generation of Muslims. Many of those who study Islam know more about the lives of scholars than they do about the Sahaba and the rightly-guided Caliphs, even though the era of the rightly-guided Caliphs offers all Muslims a rich source of knowledge about all the Islamic sciences. The Sahaba laid the foundations of a strong Islamic nation. The Companions of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (saas) are some of Islam’s greatest heroes and played a great role in the history of Islam. Their struggles for the sake of Allah and their complete devotion to Islam are examples that all Muslims can feel inspired by and inshaAllah, emulate.

May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon His final Prophet and his noble Companions. These short descriptions of the lives and merits of these Companions hardly do them any justice. It is highly recommended that each Muslim do some further investigation by reading biographies of the Companions. Here are some facts about only a few of the Prophet’s Companions.

Sincerity Towards Allah

by Imaam Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah
Translated by Abu Rumaysah

Allaah says,
"There is not a single thing except that its depositories and treasures are with Us." [Al-Hijr (15): 21]

This verse comprises a [great] treasure from the treasures [of the Qur`aan], this being that nothing is sought except from the One Who possesses its depositories and treasures, the One in Whose Hands lie the keys to these treasures. Seeking [things] from anyone else is seeking something from one who does not possess them or possess any authority over them.

The saying of Allaah,
"And that to your Lord is the final goal." [An-Najm (53): 42]

Comprises an immense treasure, this being that every desired objective that is not desired for His sake and is not connected [in any form or fashion] to Him then it is temporary and soon to disappear for its final goal is not with Him. The final goal lies only with the One to Whom all matters find their conclusion, terminating at His creation, Will, Wisdom and Knowledge. Therefore He is the source of every desired matter.
